The Fifth Moon Group( 五月畫會 )is a group of contemporary Chinese artist who were at the forefront of the modern art movement in Taiwan in the 1960’s. Their paintings blended the bold brush strokes of traditional Chinese calligraphy with the shapes and colors of modern Western art. Leading members of the Fifth Moon Group include Liu Kuo Sung, Chen Ting Shih, Fong Chung Ray, Hung Hsien, Chuang Che, and Hu Chi Chung.

Zantman Art Galleries is one of the oldest and most prominent art galleries in Carmel, California. Founded in 1959, Zantman represents contemporary artists and sculptors from all around the world, covering a wide range of mediums and styles. Hu’s first one-man show at Zantman’s Art Galleries was in 1972, and continued to have solo and group exhibitions there for more than 25 years.
